What size external battery is used for a Moultrie camera d40 game?

I have a Moultrie D40 camera model game that usually uses 6 or 8 D-size batteries It does not last long and I wanted to buy a rechargeable battery 6volt or 12volt. However, the manual does not say that V for use. However, the camera has an external power plug into the port. So, what is? 6 or 12 volts? And where can I find the cable for use with the camera?
